ok, so i really do knit
Yes, I’ve been very slack with the knitting content… ok, ANY content, but especially knitting, since the holidays. But it’s true; I really do still play with yarn. Here’s some proof:
This is a terrible picture, but it’s the Simple Twist hat, done in Wool-Ease Chunky, for my friend Woody.
Once that was done, I decided it was high time I knit myself a hat; I haven’t done that since I first learned how to knit in 2002. I had yarn that I bought specifically for such a project at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, and I chose Cosette’s Train Tam pattern to go with it. It’s not quite done; I plan to embroider the side and accent it with some antique mother-of-pearl buttons, but I’m traveling at the moment and don’t have the supplies with me, so I’m wearing it as is for now.
So yes, I’m traveling again. I hit the road on the 12th and drove to Ithaca. Then I left there on the 14th and drove on to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Yesterday I left Michigan and drove back to Ithaca, getting here just in time for my friend Mel’s baby shower. While I was in MI, my car ended up in the shop… for the whole week. Sigh. So, being stuck in the house all week, and knowing I had this shower coming up, I put my time to good use and made this:
It is, of course, Kate. And Mel loves her.
So what’s on the needles now? February Lady, of course. I’m off to a very, very slow start; I’ve actually started it 3 times now, because I can’t get the raglan increases to look the way I want them to. I’m now doing them as eyelets – yarn-overs – and I’m a little concerned that it’s going to throw off the fit, but I guess I’ll find out, won’t I?

I’m knitting an FLS too and I did the same thing with the raglan shaping. I didn’t even think that it would mess with the fit! I fear that mine is going to be tent-like and I will never be able to wear it.
I hope your travels are proving to be productive!
Well, my concern is that the YO increases are so much… looser… it seems like it will make it stretchier at the “seams” than the M1s would have. But hopefully it’ll still be ok. I guess I’ll find out.
I’m making the smallest size. I need a bigger size than that, but I’m hoping it’ll counteract the possible tent-ness. LOL
Love your site!
