have you seen verena?

Killing time, waiting for a prescription, I always check the magazine rack at the local grocery store – you never know when you’ll find a knitting magazine hiding in there.  And lo, I found a treasure, one I’d never even heard of:  Verena.

I am in love.  (Well, if future issues live up to the premier, that is… )

Verena is a burda publication, apparently, and it has a (literally) HUGE draw:  twice as many patterns per $6.99 issue than any other knitting magazine I’ve ever seen.  The patterns aren’t crap, either – there’s a few that are a little over-the-top, but no worse than Vogue, and I would say that if time and money were no object, I’d easily knit at least 25 of the 53 designs.  That’s a pretty darn high ratio, probably better than even the best issues of Interweave and Vogue.

Anyway, I just thought I’d share my find… even though I may well be the last to find out about this one, haha.

No knitting news to report, really.  I’ve turned the heel on the first Come Dancing sock and realized something… erm, not so good:  my gauge is off.  (Now there’s a surprise!)  Fortunately, it’s erring on the side of too big, rather than too small, so I’ll probably be able to “fix” it with a combination of making the foot a little shorter and a good wash-and-dry.  One of these days, I might just learn a lesson and make a damn gauge swatch, but somehow I doubt it.  :)

Also, I didn’t cast on my cowl after all, because in hunting high and low for the size-5 (I’m a loose knitter) 16″ needle, I realized that – duh – Square Cake is still on it.  Duh duh duh!  I may try it on a 7 or 8, but chances are good that’ll be too loose, so I’ll just have to wait till I finish the bag.  Ah well.
