The beginning of June means the beginning of the next triad of Project Spectrum colors: red, black, and metallics. As much as I love red – I wear it all the time – I tend to not craft with it as often as you’d think. I have no red yarn in my stash, except for that little hank of my handpainted merino, and a couple stray skeins of Lite Lopi that I don’t even like to touch because it feels like something the cat chewed on. I have some red beads, but most of my recent purchases have been turquoises and limes, colors evocative of cooling water, for the summer heat. And therein lies my problem with this triad: for me, red/black/metallics are winter colors. Trying to work with them in June feels counterintuitive.
But, um, that didn’t stop me from buying some red sock yarn. Heh. I was cruising around on ebay and found a hank of Opal Batik for $15. The picture from the listing is terrible, and I’m having a hard time finding any other good pictures online, but anyway… it’s 656 yards of yarn. In ONE HANK. In the ebay listing, the woman claimed to have made 2 pairs of socks from it. That’s a hell of a bargain for 15 bucks, so I bought one.
As far as patterns go, I’m still kinda stumped. I WAS thinking Aurelia for one pair, but the yarn is going to be too thick for that. Actually, I’ll probably just wait till the yarn gets here, so I can fiddle around with a swatch and see what kind of gauge I get. I’m so smaht.
I do have a PS-perfect project to work on in the meantime, though: Jay’s camera lens bags, in black and red tweed cotton. Yes, the ones I attempted to make him for Christmas, screwed up, and promised remade bags by Valentine’s Day. Note to self: never promise anything when it comes to knitting! Anyway, I’d better get on those, huh?

Funny that, I hardly ever wear red but I’m finding it all over the house, everywhere but in the stash. I feel a yarn buying splurge coming on……

I like Project Spectrum. It’s a built-in yarn-buying excuse. Heh.
