the mother of invention
Ten-minute legwarmers:
1. Cut the sleeves off of an old sweater, as close to the armpit as you can.
2. Crochet around the cut edge. (Or sew, or pick up stitches and knit a round, then cast off.)
3. Weave in the ends.
Wear with the ribbed cuff at the top. Voila – warm legs!
When I started planning this trip, the biting cold that’s supposed to hit NY wasn’t in the forecast. Unfortunately, I don’t have any real pants that fit me anymore – just skirts and pajama bottoms. Obviously, I’m not going to wear pajamas the whole time I’m at Mom’s, so skirts it is… hence the need for legwarmers.
They’re not as classy as if I knit them myself, but I’m still quite pleased. They’re nice and slouchy, but also long enough that I can pull them up over my knees if need be. And they’re wool, and the sweater was maybe 50 cents at the thrift store. And they took me 10 minutes to make!!
PS – Sorry for the crappy webcam pictures, but I already packed my camera.
